"American Idol" alum Katharine McPhee is testing out her acting chops on this week's episode of "Community" on NBC. In Thursday night's episode, the families of the study group head to Greendale Community College for Family Day. USAToday.com reports that McPhee may have other TV appearances coming up. She has shot an NBC pilot for a show called "The Pink House," in which she plays a Midwesterner transplanted to Hollywood. Her role on "Community" came about after she tested for a spot on NBC's "Trauma" that she didn't land. McPhee says, quote, "I said, 'Listen, this one didn't work out but hopefully in the future we can work on something.' And they called and 'Community' came up." Watch the fifth season "American Idol" contestant act opposite funnyman Joel McHale on Thursday night's "Community" at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
