Report: Man Accused of Trying Extort $2 Mil From Letterman To Plead Guilty

(New York, NY) -- The man accused of attempting to extort millions from late night talk show host David Letterman is expected to plead guilty today in a Lower Manhattan courtroom. CBS 2 reports that Robert Halderman will be sent to jail for trying to shake down the "Late Show" host for two-million-dollars after learning of his girlfriend's intimate relationship with Letterman. In a package given to Letterman's driver last September, the 52-year-old debt-ridden TV producer said he needed "a large chunk of money" and described his plans to option a screenplay that would detail Letterman's life in a downward spiral after his secrets were exposed. Law enforcement officials say the package also included photos, personal letters and portions of a diary in which Halderman's girlfriend -- an assistant for Letterman -- described her affair with the comedian.
Last October, Letterman shocked his audience when he revealed the blackmail scheme and the fact that he had had sexual relationships with members of his female staff.
