(New York, NY) -- As delays continue to plague two of the planned office towers at Ground Zero, union laborers are demanding that shovels hit the ground. A lunchtime rally saw hundreds of hardhats converge on Ground Zero calling on developer Larry Silverstein and the Port Authority to break their stalemate over financing two towers on the site. Workers like Robert Schaeffer say it's time for shovels to hit the ground.
Workers chanted "build it now" and waved signs reading don't forget 9-11, delay means defeat. The unions say the two office towers slated for the East side of Ground Zero would mean thousands of construction jobs at a time when workers are struggling for employment. Elected officials joined the rally, calling on Silverstein and the Port Authority to stop the finger pointing and saying it's time for jobs.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says the two parties should work harder to break the stalemate.
