(New York, NY) -- The major stock averages edged slightly higher Tuesday, on the one-year anniversary of a severe downturn on Wall Street. Financial shares and tech stocks fared well, while investors dumped positions in natural resources companies. At one point in the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 50 points higher, but eaked out only a small gain by the closing bell. The Dow finished just 12 points higher at ten-thousand-565. The Nasdaq gained eight points to finish the session at 23-41. The S&P 500 ticked up only two points to end at 11-40. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, crude oil fell by 38-cents to settle at 81-dollars-49-cents a barrel.
