(New York, NY) -- Royal Dutch Shell has confirmed it no longer sells gasoline to Iran. CNNMoney.com reports the confirmation came Wednesday, adding Shell to a list of companies that have ceased gas sales to the the Islamic nation. Shipments apparently stopped late last year due to a threat of future sanctions against Iran.
Those sanctions may be just around the corner. At a State Department briefing, spokesman P.J. Crowley said, quote, "I expect you'll see this advance over the next several weeks." Crowley said the U.S. is looking for companies and countries to be supportive, as a formula is developed to put both economic and political pressure on Iran to change course with its nuclear programs.
