IRS Sitting On One-Point-Three Billion In Unclaimed Refunds

(Washington, DC) -- The Internal Revenue Service is sitting on one-point-three-billion dollars in unclaimed 2006 tax refunds. That money is owed to one-point-four-million people who didn't file, and they're running out of time. After April 15th, that money will become the property of the U.S. Treasury. The IRS gives slackers three years to file and does not penalize as long as the filer is owed money and doesn't owe Uncle Sam. The median unclaimed refund is around 604-dollars. Officials say a lot of people neglected filing because they made too little and were not required to do so.
