Plan Pushed To Accelerate Rail Expansion In L.A. County

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The mayor of Los Angeles is back from a senate hearing in Washington, D.C. with a plan to accelerate the expansion of L.A. County's rail system. Friday, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the first of its kind plan could put 12 transportation projects on a fast track.

The mayor says expanding the rail system will cut half a million pounds of emissions from the air and save L.A. County resident ten million gallons of gasoline every year.

Mayor Villaraigosa says cutting the construction of the new rail lines from thirty years to ten years will save taxpayer money.

Mayor Villaraigosa says the times call for a new approach to getting things done with Washington's help.

Mayor Villaraigosa says the "30/10 Initiative" will save billions of dollars.
