Virginia General Assembly Approves Pro-Choice License Plates

(Richmond, VA) -- A bill authorizing pro-choice specialty license plates has the approval of the Virginia General Assembly. The state's ACLU had threatened a lawsuit claiming free speech would be violated if the bill was not passed. The House approved the bill by a 64-30 margin while the Senate was in favor by a narrower 22-15 count. It's uncertain whether Governor Bob McDonnell will sign the legislation. The plates would read, "Trust Women, Respect Choice," and proceeds from sales would benefit Planned Parenthood. The plates would be a counterbalance to the "Choose Life" plates which were approved last year.
