(San Diego, CA) -- People shouldn't be forced to give up their pets because of tough economic times, and animals shouldn't go hungry either. That's the thinking of PETCO, which operates hundreds of pet supply stores nationwide. The company has established a pet food bank program to help financially strapped pet owners. The pet stores will begin deploying special collection bins at locations across the U.S. this week.
The first will be in San Diego, Chicago, Orlando and New York City. Customers are being asked to donate pet food that will be passed along to local human food banks and animal welfare groups for distribution to needy pet owners. Eventually, the collection bins will be placed at more than 250 PETCO stores nationwide.
