Administration Warns Of Extended Joblessness

(Washington, DC) -- Top Obama administration officials told a House panel the national jobless rate will probably remain high for some time. White House economist Christina Romer attributed the likelihood of unemployment remaining elevated to the recession's severe toll on the labor market. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said once "strong growth" is restored to the U.S. economy, efforts to cut the federal deficit can begin.
