White House Confident Of Final Healthcare Votes This Week

(Washington, DC) -- The White House is confident of final votes on healthcare reform in the U.S. House this week. In his daily briefing, presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs brushed off questions about the legislative process and said people are more concerned about the final result.

House Democrats are pondering some complex parliamentary maneuvers as part of an endgame strategy on healthcare reform. Republicans are complaining loudly about the possible maneuvers, but Gibbs said Republicans made similar moves when they ran Congress. He noted the President is spending a lot of time this week talking with wavering House Democrats in person and on the phone. Democrats need 216 votes to finalize healthcare reform in the House. The issue stalled after the Senate and House passed different healthcare bills last year. Gibbs argued this might be the last chance to accomplish something meaningful on healthcare reform.
