(Washington, DC) -- The Federal Reserve is keeping its benchmark interest rate near zero percent. Analysts had expected that due to the country's high unemployment and low inflation. The Fed's overnight interest rate has been at zero to a quarter-percent since December of 2008. In its statement, the Fed made note of a moderate expansion in household spending.  Pete Najarian of optionmonster.com says the Fed has been sending a message to investors.

Analysts had anticipated the move, noting high unemployment and low inflation. The overnight interest rate has been at zero to a quarter-percent since December of 2008.

Pete Najarian of optionmonster.com says the Federal Reserve has been giving the market a sign that the rates will continue to be low.
