(Washington, DC) -- Winter storms are blamed for a drop in housing starts last month. The latest figures from the Commerce Department show groundbreaking activity fell nearly six-percent in February from the previous month. New building permits fell more than one-and-a-half-percent. Despite the fall, the housing market wasn't as weak in February as analysts had expected. The Fed has kept interest rates at historic lows, indicating that housing starts have been at a depressed level.
