Allen Meets With Louisiana Governor, Parrish Presidents

(New Orleans, LA) -- The man in charge of the federal government's response to the BP oil spill met with Louisiana's governor and local parish presidents to discuss their concerns more than 100 days after the Deepwater Horizon disaster started to unfold. National Incident Commander Thad Allen said they discussed the long-term cleanup, hurricane response plans and how they will transition the response.

Allen said with the well now capped it's getting harder to find oil floating on the surface of the water in the Gulf of Mexico. The admiral also said there is every indication that the cap is holding and the current techniques being used to permanently kill the well will be effective.

National Incident Commander Thad Allen says readings from the well show the cap is holding and it is maintaining its integrity.

Allen says recovery teams should be able to keep oil from entering the loop current, protecting South Florida and even the eastern U.S.

Allen says since the well was capped there hasn't been much oil reaching the surface.
