Toyota Recalls Avalon, Lexus SUV Models

(Detroit, MI) -- Over 400-thousand high-end passenger cars and SUVs in the U.S. and Canada will be recalled by Toyota Motor Corporation. The automaker says it needs to fix steering problems on the vehicles. The 2000 to 2004 model Toyota Avalons are being recalled due to the steering lock bar. The car manufacturer says it can break under some conditions. Reports of three accidents involving Avalons under the recall have been made. There were no injuries and it is not clear if the accidents were related to the possible defects. The Lexus LX470 SUVs from 2003 to 2007 are under recall to correct the risk of steering shaft disengagement. The recalls of the Avalon sedans by Toyota and the Lexus LX470 SUVs puts the number of vehicles recalled by Toyota worldwide over the past year to almost eleven-million.
