Democrat Nelson To Vote Against Kagan

(Washington, DC) -- Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson will break ranks with fellow Democrats and vote against the nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court. In a statement yesterday, Nelson said, quote, " I have heard concerns from Nebraskans regarding Ms. Kagan,
and her lack of a judicial record makes it difficult for me to discount the concerns." Nelson's opposition to Kagan as the next justice on the high court is likely to have little impact on her chances for confirmation. She has broad support among Senate Democrats and will probably garner some votes from Republican lawmakers as well. Kagan is currently the U.S. Solicitor General and a former dean of Harvard Law School. She has never served as a judge in her law career.
